Transport fixtures & steel packaging

Engineering, manufacturing and maintenance of transport fixtures and steel packaging — for robotic and manual handling in industry.

Tailored transport solutions for industry

Transport fixtures and steel packaging are critical components in modern industrial production. They make sure parts and components are moved safely between production steps, between factories and to the end customer — without damage, deformation or quality loss. Predire Industries has, among other things, supplied transport fixtures directly to Volvo's press shop in Olofström over many years.

Engineering with CATIA V5

Every transport fixture starts with an engineering phase. Our engineering department works in CATIA V5 and produces 3D models based on the customer's part geometry. We size the fixture according to factors such as part weight, handling method (robotic or manual), transport method and any stackability requirements. Working in the same CAD environment as many of our customers means we can easily receive and work with existing models.

Prototype and verification

For new designs we often build a prototype to verify fit and function before series production. With careful measurement and documentation we can verify that the fixture meets all geometric requirements. This verification takes place in our own facility in Sölvesborg, which saves time and reduces the risk of errors in production.

Manufacturing under one roof

We perform all manufacturing steps in-house: laser cutting, bending, welding, machining and surface treatment. The material is normally structural steel, but we also work in stainless steel and aluminium depending on the customer's requirements. Our welding capability includes MIG/MAG and TIG, and we handle both one-off and series production.

Steel packaging for high-volume transport

In addition to transport fixtures we manufacture steel packaging — robust steel containers and racks designed to protect goods during transport and storage. Steel packaging is often stackable and shaped to maximise volume efficiency in trucks or containers. We engineer the packaging around the customer's specific parts, taking into account weight, fill rate and handling equipment.

Robotic and manual handling

Many of our transport fixtures are engineered for robotic handling in automated production lines. That places high demands on positional accuracy and repeatability — the robot must be able to pick and place parts with exact precision. We size reference points, supports and clamping features to match the robot's gripper. For manual handling we adapt ergonomics, weight and accessibility.

Maintenance and repair

Transport fixtures are exposed to wear and mechanical impact in daily use. We offer ongoing maintenance, repair and modification of existing fixtures. When products change we can adapt existing fixtures rather than build new ones, which reduces cost and lead time. We also handle refurbishment of older steel packaging to extend its service life.

Experience from the automotive industry

Our background as a supplier to Volvo in Olofström and Gothenburg has given us solid experience of the high requirements in the automotive industry. We understand the importance of accurate documentation, traceability and on-time delivery. We apply that experience to every project, regardless of industry.

FAQ about transport fixtures

What is a transport fixture?

A transport fixture is a custom-built steel rack that holds and protects components during transport between production steps or to the end customer. The fixture is engineered to fit the specific geometry of the part and can be adapted for robotic or manual handling.

What is the difference between transport fixtures and steel packaging?

Transport fixtures are designed to hold a specific part in an exact position, often for robotic handling. Steel packaging is more general — built to protect goods during transport and storage, with a focus on stackability and volume efficiency. In practice the terms overlap somewhat — we will help you choose the right solution.

What materials are used in transport fixtures?

We mainly work in structural steel and stainless steel. Depending on requirements we can also use aluminium for weight optimisation or special alloys for demanding environments. The choice of material is driven by the part's weight, the transport environment and any corrosion resistance requirements.

What is the lead time?

Lead time depends on project complexity and quantity. A simpler fixture can be delivered within 3-4 weeks, while larger series or complex designs may take 6-10 weeks. We always provide a concrete time estimate after reviewing your documentation.

Do you offer maintenance and repair of existing fixtures?

Yes. We perform ongoing maintenance, repair and modification of transport fixtures and steel packaging — including units we did not manufacture ourselves. When products change we can often adapt existing fixtures rather than build new ones.

Can you handle the entire process from engineering to delivery?

Yes. We have our own engineering department using CATIA V5, in-house manufacturing with welding, cutting and machining, and our own measurement capability for geometric verification. Everything happens under one roof in Sölvesborg, which gives short communication paths and high quality control.
